Join the movement to embed water and hydrological risks with waste and energy risks into Sustainability in Sport + Entertainment for events, tours, venues and fan engagement + achieve measured environmental results

We can help sponsorships deliver true sustainability
by addressing the challenges

  • Change sustainability pledges and commitments into practical action with measured environmental results
  • Broader understanding of water, waste and energy issues. For example: hydrological risks (flooding, water pollution, drought), and fan base energy usage and scope 4 emissions.
  • Uncertainty in how to mitigate these threats to sponsored venues, tours or events

  • Under-utilising the massive influence of sports and entertainment as drivers of positive social and environmental impact
  • Feeling ‘disconnected’ from the soul of what you value as a sustainability professional, a consumer of sports and entertainment content – and as a human being
  • Lack of understanding of Water and its interconnectedness with energy – and therefore carbon and climate change

At Thunderstorm Sports + Entertainment, we believe you desire to be a leader in Sustainability in your sport or branch of entertainment. To do that, you need patience, creativity and a deep understanding of environmental risks that can shut down your operations. These include risks around waste, energy and water, we can help with all of these. But we believe that water risks like flooding, drought and pollution are generally overlooked.

The problem is, water is the missing link in Sustainability in Sport + Entertainment. The negative impacts of climate change are playing out in Water – “too much, too little, too polluted”. Meanwhile budget constraints are becoming more acute, which creates anxiety and uncertainty. And you know the potential devastation that can come from extreme weather conditions – whether it is from flooding, mudslides, drought or dangerous water quality from pollution or pathogens that threaten your staff, athletes and fans.

This is why one of the primary focusses of Thunderstorm is raising the profile of Water and Hydrological Risk- to embed it into the Sustainability in Sport and Entertainment Movement through higher, qualified and aligned Standards, Partnerships and tangible environmental Projects.

We believe in helping you focus on the hidden as well as the clear risk

Case study:

In 2024, Thunderstorm was contracted by WWF Freshwater to ensure the successful launch and development of the next stage of its strategic partnership with World Rowing. We worked closely with WWF Italy, World Rowing and the Municipality of Genoa as the Host City and Organising Committee to identify, develop and carry out multiple WWF projects for Healthy Waters around the World Rowing Beach Sprint and Coastal Rowing Championships in Genoa, Italy.

As part of the Partnership, projects like a seabed clean-up, led by WWF Italy and its local NGO partner, Spazzapnea took place along the coastline where the event was held. Debris was collected, measured and reported to the Municipality towards its goals for the Port of Genoa as a Green Port – and in its efforts to stop pollution at source. On-going WWF Italy Adopt-a-Beach projects are also expanding throughout the Mediterranean and along the Italian Coastline in collaborations with the national rowing federations and the participation of local rowing clubs in collecting, measuring and reporting pollution data for local and national databases.

We also engaged with the renowned Cambridge Boathouse in Boston to integrate the
WWF-World Rowing Healthy Waters Initiative into the first youth club event, the Head of the Quinobequin Regatta, just before the Head of the Charles Regatta, the largest regatta in the world.

The models we created and the Partnership Projects are now expanding to additional World Rowing Championship events in 2025 and forward.
